So I just have Dean’s commentary running through my head. And he keeps using Cas’ name even when he doesn’t necessarily need to because he’s hoping that Cas is listening in. Because he just knows that the only way to get Cas to reconsider is to talk to him, but when faced with him he just keeps repeating all the things that didn’t work when trying to stop Sam. So he prays and prays and prays, (and even throws in God’s and Gabriel’s and Balthazar’s names so that more beings would know how sorry he is that he doesn’t know how to fix Cas, so that they’d know he’d never really give up despite the odds) and keeps on praying until he’s whispering and then speaking the words and Sam wakes up and over hears him but doesn’t do anything, and eventually Cas shows up again …
